that frame doesnt look bad at all. I am sure there is a donor body that wants to live on that. Good old yota frame is like finding a kidney sometimes. One dies, one lives on

Yeah, you're right! Sad thing is that the kids dad bought that truck new and it has been absolutely spotless for years!

There were two brothers at my high school who had really rich parents. both had immaculately restored 60's muscle cars as their first cars, they did not last long. parents need to learn to give their kids crappy beater cars for them to learn in like what I got, a hand me down 96 Taurus with a jumpy transmission and a green front bumper while the rest of the car was red, although the dual bench seats allowed for some fun times if you know what I mean.

That's a shame! The kid at my school that had a '67 Camaro at 16 was forced to daily drive a mid 2000's Yota and could only drive the Camaro on Fridays in clear weather! His dad had a '68 and kept them locked up most of the time. My first car was a $700 4-banger Mustang, that has been fixed up over the last 6 years! My appreciation for all of the work I've had to put into it has made sure that I don't drive it like an idiot.

I've only had my license for a couple months and my dad gave me his 06' A3 which he's kept in great condition and while it's an awesome car so I can't complain I do think I would be better off in a beater that wasn't nearly as fast of a car. For a while I tried to find cheap cars on craigslist but then he found himself a 2001 S4 and thought that would be a fun car for himself

Put them in nothing. Let them buy their first car.

I think there's a lot of parents out there who are more afraid of their child looking poor, being unhappy, or buying something they wouldn't approve of (because they never took the time to explain what a good car would be, or they don't know themselves) rather than lose a ton of money by risking a new/clean/classic car on their kid.

Because my kid is more responsible than Timmy around the block who wrecked his WRX last year, and if I make him buy a car with the $200 he has from saving up borrowed money (because we don't want to be the parents who make our kid unhappy by having him work) then he'll be made fun of. Plus, it would be way less safe than a shiny new car, right?

I was dropped into a $700 POS '93 Mustang which was bright green(Couldn't hide it's shittiness) and had a 4-banger. I say give your kid a beater and say here ya go! Make Money and fix it up! The respect and appreciation I have for the equipment that I have put so much work into to improve has kept my ass safe and responsible for the past 6 years!

Is the dude in the first picture really the "kid"? He's got some pretty serious balding going on at 16.

Why.... just why... Just freaking slow down in snow.

Well my parents put me in a 2013 Mazda 3... (6 speed manual, too.) We're not rich or anything. Technically it's the family car with me as the main driver, but I'll pay my parents for it and take it to college probably. I drive that thing nice and careful, yet with gusto and enthusiasm. I avoid high revs, grinding gears, and such. I haven't had a single mishap... No dings, scratches, near collisions, tickets, food spills, etc. I pay for gas, insurance, and support the payment. Now I'm honestly asking... Bad choice on their part?

Anyways I'd love a crap car, or anything I can work on. My gearhead wants to develop in my family of appliance drivers, but I keep getting no opportunities. I almost bought some $900 beater from the 80's with 150,000 patents but got a big no. It was a two door coupe... Black... funky rear lights... meh. I enjoy the new car. I'll stop there and just make a part sometime.

... But will it still run? Of course it does, what's the problem? It's a donor cab away from being a project/life lesson for the kid.
If Jezza could only kill one by sinking it in a pond (after overheating it to hell on the way to said pond) I'm thinking it could handle a teenager rolling it in the snow...

Good point. My parents had the right idea, though I hated it at the time. It was a ratty old '75 Cutlass with a 260" engine that wouldn't spin one tire in the mud. I was ashamed to be seen in it. I was tasked with making it presentable. I know I appreciated it a lot more than the kids that were given nice cars.

Pretty much the reason our 20 year old son has the use of a 2002 Taurus with 170k on it while he attends a local college. He's a pretty good driver, but he ain't getting a nice car on my dime while I have to rock a 2000 Shitbird Saturn.
